- Video Spotlight :: Ricky Rubio -

ROUND 1 :: Updated (6/24/09)
*Click on the Player's Name for Deeper Analysis*

Pick TeamPickCollege
1

 Los Angeles Clippers

Blake Griffin

Oklahoma
Blake Griffin is the clear cut number one pick.  Clippers are excited about taking Griffin no. 1, but is Griffin excited about going to a terrible franchise? The Clippers are the Detroit Lions of football, and seem to choke with their draft picks year after year.  The biggest concern is finding the right spot for Griffin to have success on this ball club.
2Memphis Grizzlies

Hasheem Thabeet

Uconn
Memphis will take Hasheem Thabeet, unless they can trade this pick with the Sacramento Kings.  I believe the Kings want Ricky Rubio badly and they know that the only way they get him is to trade with Memphis.
3Oklahoma City Thunder

 Ricky Rubio

International
The Thunder will take Rubio, but it all depends on Memphis. The Thunder could use a dominant Center more than a PG, so if you are an Oklahoma City fan then hope for Thabeet to fall your way.
4Sacramento Kings

Jrue Holiday

 Jrue Holiday

UCLA
The Kings need a scorer and a PG. The Kings seem to be set on taking a PG in this order (Rubio, Holiday, Flynn). Point Guards are deep in this draft, and I think they should wait later to take a PG, but they probably wont listen to me. With that being said, the Kings should trade up to get Rubio (with Memphis). There is no team that needs a PG as bad as the Kings.
5Minnesota Timberwolves

James Harden

Arizona St.
The T'Wolves would love for Harden to fall this late. They need another scoring threat and Harden is the best of them all.
6Minnesota Timberwolves

 Jordan Hill

Arizona
I am not sure where Jordan Hill will fall in this draft.  He is going to screw up a lot of mock drafts, because most teams with the first ten picks don't need a PF but his talent is hard to pass up. The T'Wolves need help at any position, and Jordan Hill is the best player available at this point.  I could also see Minnesota either trying to trade up to get Thabeet or trading this pick away to a team that would have more interest in Hill.
7Golden State Warriors

Brandon Jennings

International
The Warriors need a true PG, because Ellis and Crawford are more SG's than anything.  The best TRUE PG's available are Jennings and Flynn, that are worth a top 10 pick.  Brandon Jennings has more upside than Flynn, but still needs a lot of work and didn't prove much in Europe.  I believe that the Warriors make a big mistake and take Jennings at pick #7, because of hype and upside.
8New York Knicks

Demar DeRozan

USC
The Knicks would gladly take DeRozan if he falls this late.  DeRozan is the most athletic player in this draft class and reminds me of a bigger and stronger Shawn Marion. The Knicks decision would come down to Evans or DeRozan, but DeRozan will probably get the nod from the Big Apple.
9 Toronto Raptors

Tyreke Evans

Memphis
The Raptors roster is in the biggest mess of all other teams.  There are major question marks of who will be in Toronto next year, and two years from now.  At this point, the Raptors will take the best player available.
10Milwaukee Bucks

Jonny Flynn

Syracuse
The Bucks need PG help right away! There's not much more to say other than that there is one major concern for this team, and that is getting a true PG.  The Bucks will end up with Flynn, Jennings, or Holiday.  They can't go wrong with any of the three.

That was before the lottery, but you are correct that the Clippers will go #1.

Damn. Petrie said he is going to take Griffin if he gets the 1st pick in the draft. If you are not going to listen to me on who the Kings will select, listen to the facts.

I kind of agree with you Murray, but you cant ignore the fact that the Kings SHOULD not take Griffin. If Rubio enters this draft, than the Kings need a PG probably more than any teamin the NBA.

The Kings need the best available player, and that by far is Griffin. Rubio is an 18 year old kid with a bright future, but not ready to do it now. Griffin will help keep the kings in sacramento, rubio will not.

Kings will trade up (rubio) or down (flynn/ Jennings/Evans/ Holiday) if Rubio doesn't drop to #4. BTW, Calathes is playing in Greece next year. You can drop him to the 2nd round.

Ty Lawson all the way down to #15? I like Johnny Flynn as much as the next guy and don't like any guy that dons Carolina Blue, but I find it surprising you have him below Flynn- heck, I even wonder if he could go before Jennings just because of his collegiate upbringing, ability to take it to the next level in big games and his vast skillset. But that's just me ;). I also wonder, as a Cavs fan (sigh), if Cleveland doesn't try to move up a couple spots to pick up a center of PF, especially since Z and Wallace are on the verge of retirement and Varejao has opted out. Seems like a foregone conclusion they look big if possible.

Marcus,
I have read many reports that team GM's are going to stay away from Lawson, because he is injury prone. I have been on Lawson as the best PG from day 1. But I have to try to be accurate as I can with my picks, and when GM's are not liking Lawson that changes a lot. I think it would be a huge mistake to NOT take Lawson as the 2nd best PG in this draft class. (assuming Rubio enters the draft)

I don't see the hype of Rubio. You would do better drafting Lawson or flynn.

What would you not like about Rubio. He has everything you could possibly want in a PG. He has great height for a PG. He also can shoot, and his best attribute is passing. He is a triple threat and in my opinion is BY FAR the best PG in this class.

Mem has mike conely and need to PG to pass and not shoot. If you know the Mem lineup. Gay,Mayo, Gasol... On this cite they have rubio before Tabeet which will not be the case.

OK, first of all.... Memphis taking Rubio, will not, and will never happen. Memphis already has plenty of guards for guard play. What the team lacks is rebounding, and shot-blocking. Rudy Gay was still the team leader in blocks last year (unless you want to give the credit to Darko Millicic). The Big men in memphis are Hakeem Warrick, Darko Millicic, Marc Gasol. and Darius Miles! they are using Darius Miles at the 4 and 5. and you're going to sit here and say that with 7'3 Thabeet on the board, they are going to pass, and have Rubio and Conley and Mayo take part in a 3 person cluster...censored... at he guard position? I don't think so.

Memphis takes Thabeet, solidifies their Post defense and rebounding. and Conley, Mayo, and Gay will run the show.

Eightpackilla and soulking,

I appreciate both of your comment, but I am going to need both of your addresses to send you some READING GLASSES!

If you read the blurb below the pick, than maybe you can figure out what we are saying. We are NOT saying that Memphis will necessarily take Rubio with that pick. We believe that Memphis will do one of two things. They will only take Rubio if they find another team to trade Mike Conley OR just flat out trade their pick to a likely Sacramento Kings team that needs a PG.

Well, send me some reading glasses, cause looks to me, that your top 10, had... 2-3 picks correct. tops.

Not saying your mock draft is bad, just saying the people doing it, obviously could do to learn a little more about basketball, and team needs...

yeah, rubio, #5, , tyreke to Sac. harden to OKC.
(OKC needed a legitamate scorer besides Durant, so, OBVIOUSLY they would take the "best scorer" in the draft.)
Then OKC trades their 1 pick for a Center, Y? Cause they needed a center, not as much as someone other than Durant to be able to score. but they did need a center.

Johnny Flynn falling that far?! He was the best PG in the draft. (as in, littlest risk with biggest rewards., versus Rubio, HIGH risk, and Similar, if not slightly better reward than Flynn)

Not to mention, you didn't even have Curry in the top 10

Oh yeah, BTW, if the Kings wanted "Rubio BADLY", Y did they pass on him, and draft Tyreke Evans, when Rubio was still on the board? and I get criticized for my comments? rofl.
